Five-star signal caller Bryce Underwood broke down his recruitment in a recent interview with On3 Sports. He had some interesting things to say about the runner-up for his commitment in that conversation.
Underwood, who’s ranked as the nation’s No. 1 player in the 2025 class – regardless of position, chose LSU over Michigan this past January.
This week, he rubbed salt into the Wolverines‘ wounds after they missed out on securing his pledge. The passer opened up on why he picked the Tigers, saying the program’s recent development at the position pushed it over the edge.
Jayden Daniels won the Heisman this past season while LSU has also seen NFL star Joe Burrow win a national title over the last five years.
Though both transferred in from other universities, neither saw the success attained in Baton Rouge prior to their arrivals on campus. Bryce Underwood apparently took note, and it convinced him to continue his football career as a Tiger.
But while complimenting LSU’s history of success under center, he also threw some shade Michigan’s way.

Underwood had a hard time naming a top-flight Wolverine passer of the (recent) past.
He must’ve missed this year’s draft where JJ McCarthy was selected with a first-round pick! Of course, that came a few selections after seeing Daniels go at the No. 2 spot.
McCarthy was just the second UM quarterback to be picked on Day 1, joining his former coach Jim Harbaugh, who was taken 26th in the 1987 NFL Draft.
Since 2000, the Wolverines have seen six signal callers get drafted, starting with sixth-round pick Tom Brady. While Brady undoubtedly achieved high-level success, those that followed (Drew Henson, John Navarre, Chad Henne, and Jake Rudock) did not.
Maybe Bryce Underwood had a point!
For Michigan fans, the comments offer a second sting after being spurned by the talented recruit. We’ll see if he can follow in the footsteps of Burrow and Daniels upon arriving to Baton Rouge.
