Kevin Durant’s Reaction To Joel Embiid’s 70-Point Game Sparks Trade Rumors

Could Kevin Durant be a Philadelphia 76ers player before his career is said and done?

Some fans believe it may just be a matter of time.

Durant was linked to Philadelphia prior to moves to both Brooklyn and Phoenix, and his reaction to Joel Embiid’s 70-point game against the San Antonio Spurs brought those links back up on Monday night.

Following a 115-113 win over the Chicago Bulls, in which Durant hit a game-winning shot with 1.6 seconds remaining, he was asked about Embiid’s big night.

He was unaware of the 70-point performance, and his reaction is just about what you’d imagine.

“70?! He had 70?!,” Durant said with a smile. “S—.”

It’s far from the first time Durant has expressed his admiration for the reigning NBA MVP.

Kevin Durant Has Previously Expressed Frustration With Phoenix Suns

Prior to the Suns’ Christmas Day showdown with the Dallas Mavericks, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Durant was frustrated with the situation in Phoenix.

“You talk to people in Phoenix and around that organization, they can feel the frustration with Durant,  he said. “Part of that, certainly, is the missed games for Beal. This team was built around those three stars. The underwhelming supporting cast that comes from those massive trades for Durant and Bradley Beal that really gutted the organization and left them having to sign a lot of minimum players to fill out the payroll.

“And then understanding that they lack the assets, the draft picks, the trade capital, to go out and really improve this team.”

Given the report and Durant’s admiration for Embiid, fans began to connect the dots on Monday night.

At this point, it’s entirely just fan speculation. But Philadelphia has been surprisingly silent so far in the trade market. Daryl Morey has seemingly passed on “big” moves for Dejounte Murray and Zach LaVine.

It’s fair to wonder if he’s waiting out the market to see if a big fish such as Durant comes available in the next 12 months.
