Given that he’s got plenty of time to let it heal, Aaron Rodgers got himself a new tattoo this week that is vaguely similar to Ben Affleck’s infamous phoenix tattoo.
In a picture shared on his Instagram, Rodgers’ new ink can be seen on his left bicep above where his first sacred geometry forearm tattoo is.
The tattoo is almost an homage to the New York Jets, as the dragon is in the shape of the number 8, which is Rodgers’ jersey number on Gang Green.
In case you don’t remember, back in 2016, Affleck — following his divorce from Jennifer Garner — was spotted on a beach with a massive phoenix tattoo on his back, which he then claimed was fake before eventually admitting it was real.
While Rodgers had previously entertained the idea of returning to the field for the Jets’ Christmas Eve game against the Washington Commanders, the mercurial QB has stopped his attention-grabbing act and now seems committed to continuing his rehab.
The four-time NFL MVP joined the Jets back in late April and went into the season with Super Bowl expectations. However, just four snaps into the season, Rodgers tore his achilles. He has still yet to complete a regular season pass for the Jets.
Rodgers will be running it back with the Jets next year, therefore likely saving the jobs of head coach Robert Saleh, offensive coordinator, and general manager Joe Douglas — none of whom properly did their job this year by having the team prepared for a scenario in which their 40-year-old quarterback got hurt.
Heading into their Week 14 gam against the Houston Texans — which will see Zach Wilson reinstated as the starter after he was benched for two weeks for the since-cut Tim Boyle — the Jets’ record is 4-8, all but guaranteeing they’ll miss the playoffs for an NFL-worst 13th straight season.
