It appears that streaming companies are willing to pay an arm and a leg to stream NFL playoff games, which doesn’t bode well for fans.
Fans recently complained when the NFL gave Peacock an online exclusive playoff game for $110 million.
According to CNBC’s Alex Sherman, Amazon is paying $150 million to stream an NFL playoff exclusively on their platform.
“I’m told that number is closer to $150 million rather $120 million from a source familiar with the matter…The point why this is important is because Peacock paid $110 million for the last wildcard game, if Peacock is paying closer to $150 million for this one, now we’re talking about a 30 plus percent increase”
Just now @sherman4949 went on CNBC with news that the price tag for Amazon's streaming exclusive playoff game next year is $150 million.
Earlier today, @FOS reported the number at $120 million

Just two weeks ago, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the league, putting NFL playoff games behind a paywall on streaming platforms.

“Consumers are moving off paid television services and going into digital streaming services and platforms. We as the NFL have to be able to reach our fans there,” Goodell said. “We still have over 90 percent of our games on free television. No other league, no other sports come close to that.”
“We have to fish where the fish are and we have a lot of consumers that are on those platforms. And the Peacock game showed that,” Goodell said. “Amazon showed that over the last two years. … Our fans are on these platforms and our fans want to access them.”

Tracy Wolfson then asked about the possibility of a Super Bowl being streaming-only in the future.

The more these streaming platforms are willing to pay, the more likely there will be more games behind streaming platforms in the coming years.
