Former NFL Punter Makes Travis Kelce’s NFL Record Look Like No Big Deal With Simple Stat

Travis Kelce Jerry Rice

Travis Kelce broke one of Jerry Rice’s records on Sunday, but former NFL punter Chris Kluwe made it clear that it wasn’t actually that big of a deal. He, too, shares one statistical commonality with the Pro Football Hall of Fame pass-catcher.

The AFC Championship marked Kelce’s 21st playoff game in 11 years with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jerry Rice played in 29 NFL playoff games with the 49ers, Raiders and Seahawks.

Although the former has played eight less postseason games than the latter, he officially holds the league record for most catches in the playoffs. Rice made 151 catches. Kelce entered the weekend with 145.

He needed seven catches to break the record and it did not take long. Patrick Mahomes found his tight end for the seventh time with just under seven minutes left in the second quarter.

Naturally, the NFL had to make reference to Taylor Swift!

While Swifties and Chiefs fans rejoiced at the record-breaking catch, Kluwe was not impressed. He and Rice are of equal standing when it comes to the amount of tackles made during their NFL careers.

Kluwe, who missed just one game in eight seasons with the Vikings, made two tackles in 2005 and 2011, and one tackle in 2007, 2010 and 2012. Seven total!

Rice, who played 303 games in total, made four tackles in 2002, two tackles in 2003 and one tackle in 2004. Also seven total!

Kluwe had to let Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and the folks at CBS know that he is just as elite as one of the greatest wide receivers of all-time. Kelce’s record be damned!

I’m tied with Jerry Rice in a stat, Tony Romo

Seven all time career tackles. Boom. GOAT

Sorry Travis Kelce, you’re not that special. He shattered a 22-year-old record in the playoffs, but Kluwe and Rice are essentially of equal status in terms of their careers!
