The world of professional darts has the ability to produce more drama than you’d probably expect, and we’ve been treated to a fresh new batch courtesy of a competitor who’s convinced his opponent purposefully filled the room with farts to throw him off of his game.
I’m going to go out on a limb and assume the vast majority of people reading this aren’t familiar with Darren Webster, a 55-year-old darts player from England known as “Demolition Man” who’s been playing professionally for more than two decades.
I assume that’s also the case when it comes to Ron Meulenkamp (a.k.a. “The Bomb”), a 35-year-old hailing from the Netherlands with slightly less experience under his belt.
Those two men went toe-to-toe during a MODUS Super Series showdown on Thursday in a match where Webster seemed to be well on his way to securing a victory after jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven tilt. However, Meulenkamp was ultimately able to rally and win four consecutive games to walk away on top.
According to LBC, Webster declined to shake hands with his opponent after the match for reasons that weren’t initially clear. However, we got some insight into what may have led to that decision when he hopped on social media to accuse Meulenkamp of farting to the point where he stank up the entire stage.

Now, you might be under the impression this is the first time the world of darts has been rocked by this particular issue, and while it’s a reasonable conclusion, that’s not actually the case.
In 2018, we were treated to the original Fartgate courtesy of Gary Anderson and Wesley Harms, who each blamed each other for an offensive smell that caused a bit of a stir when the two men faced off in the Grand Slam of Darts.
