John Calipari Plans To Suck Fun Out Of Wildcats’ Offseason After Being Retained By Kentucky

Head coach John Calipari will reportedly be retained by Kentucky following another early exit in the NCAA Tournament. News broke on Tuesday after a meeting with athletic director Mitch Barnhart.

Speculation about his job security was immediately sparked when the Wildcats lost in the first round of the Big Dance to 14th-seeded Oakland.

Fans watching along in Pittsburgh were disgusted with the defeat, which came just two seasons after Coach Cal’s group was upset by 15th-seeded Saint Peter’s.

While a large portion of Big Blue Nation wanted to see a change, having seen their program fail to reach the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for a fifth straight season, there was at least one thing standing in the way.

The buyout.

John Calipari would’ve been owed $33M had he been canned, likely keeping administration from making a rash decision.

That massive amount combined with past success (4 Final Fours, 1 national championship) bought him another season.

Feeling the pressure being applied by that passionate Kentucky fanbase, the head coach has promised change – and that includes sucking the fun out of the ‘Cats’ offseason!

John Calipari wants to cancel an offseason trip to focus on defense.

On his most recent radio show appearance, Cal hinted at major changes. One included cancelling an annual trip, often taken to the Bahamas, in which the team competes in offseason tournaments as well as participates in community outreach.

Calipari also pledged to get older as a team after growing synonymous with the term “One-and-done.”

John Fanta of The Field of 68 broke things down further.

Calipari is open to anything as he searches for postseason success. We’ll see if it pays off!
