Teen Who Vanished Almost 30 Years Ago Discovered In Secret Well Under Neighbor’s Home

A teen boy who vanished almost 30 years ago and was thought to be dead was found in a secret well under a neighbor’s home just 200 meters away.

The victim, Omar Bin Omran, was 19-years-old when he disappeared during the Algerian Civil War in the late 1990s.

In the almost 30 years he was missing, his family thought that he may have been killed during the war between Algeria and multiple Islamist rebel groups.

Now 45-years-old, he was discovered in a secret well covered by hay underneath a 61-year-old neighbor’s home.

The neighbor’s home in Djelfa, at a sheep farm, is located only about 200 meters away from the victim’s home.

“Two days ago, on 12 May 2024, the Public Prosecutor’s Office received, through the regional department of the National Gendarmerie in El Jadid, a complaint against an anonymous person claiming that the complainant’s brother, Omar bin Omran, who has been missing for about 30 years, is in the house of one of his neighbors, inside a sheepfold,” prosecutors in Djelfa said in a statement.

“Following this report the General Prosecutor of the Court of Idrisiya in the province of Djelfa ordered the National Gendarmerie to open an in-depth investigation and officers went to the house in question.

“The Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered that the victim receive medical and psychological treatment, and the suspect will be presented to the Public Prosecutor’s Office immediately after the completion of the investigation.”

Algerian media reports also state that the victim felt he was unable to seek help due to a spell cast cast on him by his alleged abductor.

He was reportedly discovered under the neighbor’s home, according to the Mirror, because “the victim’s family had been tipped off about Omar’s whereabouts after the alleged captor’s brother aired grievances on social media during an inheritance dispute.”

His abductor was reportedly apprehended by authorities in a nearby town attempting to flee prosecution.

One of the victim’s other neighbors told Algerian TV station Bilad, “His poor mom died while he was in captivity, without knowing what had happened to him, without knowing that all this time he was really right beside her.”
