Nick Saban is not a big fan of the current state of NIL’s role in college football.
On Tuesday Saban went to Capitol Hill for an NIL roundtable discussion hosted by Senator Ted Cruz.
While speaking to the panel, Saban complained about how the current NIL system has changed college football for the worse.
“Well, all the things I believed in for all these years of coaching, 50 years of coaching, no longer exist in college athletics,”
“It’s whoever wants to pay, the most money raised, the most money to buy the most players is going to have the best opportunity to win”
“You’re going to create a caste system where the rich will get richer and the poor get poorer, and eventually the fans will look at it like, ‘I really don’t want to watch the game.'”

The former Alabama head coach even said his wife urged him to retire because players only cared about making money.
Nick Saban said his wife, Terry, came to him before his retirement and told him, “Why are we doing this?" She told him that the players now only care about how much money they are making.

Saban’s comments didn’t sit well with many on social media.
“That’s the way it’s been since the beginning, especially in the SEC. This is not an NIL thing. Bama money has been good. Stop the drama”
“This man gonna look somebody in the face and pretend it hasn’t always been this way, and that his team didn’t benefit from it as much or more than any school in the country. Johnny football already confirmed Bama’s bag men and we’re supposed to take this guy seriously?”
