Bengals Could Be In Trouble For Failing To List Joe Burrow On Injury Report Before Ravens Game

Thursday Night Football was a brutal game for both the Bengals and the Ravens on the injury front, as Joe Burrow was knocked out of the contest with a wrist issue and Baltimore lost Mark Andrews for the rest of the season due to a devastating ankle ailment. However, Cincinnati could be facing discipline for failing to disclose the setback their QB seemed to be dealing with prior to the showdown.

Earlier this week, the Cincinnati Bengals posted a clip of the team heading out for its road trip only to delete the video after plenty of fans noticed Joe Burrow seemed to be sporting a brace on his right wrist.

It didn’t seem like a major cause for concern when you consider the quarterback wasn’t listed on the team’s injury report and seemed to be unaffected when the game kicked off. However, things took a very interesting turn when Burrow was filmed clutching his wrist after throwing a touchdown pass to  Joe Mixon midway through the second quarter, which marked his final play of the night.

Cameras captured the QB attempting to throw the ball on the sideline only to end up writhing in pain, and the Bengals announced he’ll be undergoing an MRI in the hopes of getting some more information concerning what has tentatively been diagnosed as a sprained wrist.

However,

, that development caught the attention of the NFL, which is looking into whether or not Cincinnati broke the rules by failing to disclose a preexisting issue it seems like Burrow may have been dealing with on the official injury report prior to the contest.

It’s easy to understand why teams want to keep potential injuries close to the chest, but every franchise is aware of league rules that require them to be transparent about ailments players are grappling with.

As Schefter notes, the NFL has the right to take away a draft pick if the violation is viewed as particularly egregious, although it seems a bit more likely the Bengals will have to pay a fine if the investigation determines they skirted the policy.
