The WNBA season is officially underway and it’s garnering more intrigue after the Women’s College Basketball Championship created a stir.
However, on Sunday, all eyes were on the Phoenix Mercury, as Brittney Griner finally returned to action. In fact, it was her first home game in 585 days.
You’d think there would be some rust bouncing back from her previous situation in Russia. Instead, she had an absolute monster performance for the Mercury. It’s just a shame it wasn’t enough to earn the win.
Regardless, Brittney Griner proved to be a problem in her first home game since 2021.

It’s actually pretty cool to see here playing so well right away. She’s clearly back in form and is on a great pace after her first two games of the 2023 season.
She’s currently averaging 22.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. If she can keep up this pace, Griner could be in the running for the MVP later this year.
Even James Wade, head coach of the Chicago Sky was impressed with Brittney Griner’s return to action.
“It was touching…it gets really real once you see her on the floor.”

With that said, perhaps she can keep up this brilliant play. If she can, it should lead to more wins for the Mercury, even though the team wasn’t lucky in that department on Sunday.
Look for Brittney Griner to continue making waves in the WNBA this season.
