Golf superstar Tiger Woods is going to extreme lengths to get ready for his next appearance at The Masters. A friend says that the 48-year-old has resorted to abstinence ahead of his trip to Augusta as training takes precedence over all else.
No distractions!
Tiger plans to tee off for the 26th time in the event next week, and he’s not letting anything get in the way of a strong performance at his favorite tournament.More from the NY Post:
“He’s focused,” says a friend of the golfer. “He’s working really hard in the gym. He’s eating right. He’s even eliminated sex.
“He does that now when he’s preparing: [nothing] until the tournament is over. He doesn’t want anything to take away his focus.”
Pulling out all the stops!
Woods last won The Masters in 2019, slipping on that Green Jacket somewhat improbably after entering the field as a major longshot.
Since, he’s struggled.
Injuries have been largely to blame, as he’s finished no higher than 38th on the leaderboard in his last three attempts. He was forced to withdraw his last time out due to a plantar fasciitis flare up, but it’s clear his focus is on getting back to full strength this April.
Woods could not be reached for confirmation on the training tactic, with the NY Post unable to get a response from his publicist. If true, it speaks volumes to his dedication.
He’s been battling back ankle surgery, which he underwent shortly after that latest Masters withdrawal. He wasted little time returning to the links, stating that he plans to play at least one PGA Tour event a month this season.
Tiger Woods has banked nearly $10M in Masters winnings.
That’s come with five overall wins, 12 top fives, and 24 made cuts in 25 attempts.
The golfer’s average score at Augusta National is around 71, with his lone missed cut coming in his second professional season (1996) following a pair of 75s to open the tournament.
Since, he’s been one of the most dominant players in the field, with those five Masters wins trailing only Jack Nicklaus (6).
Can he get back in the winner’s circle in 2024? He seems to be doing all that he can!
