Tiger Woods is an extremely sweaty guy. The 48-year-old golf legend was absolutely drenched during the first round of the PGA Championship on Thursday morning.
It wasn’t even that hot out!
Woods, who announced the release of his new clothing line ‘Sun Day Red’ back in February, proudly wore his company’s clothes on the course at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
He chose to go with a salmon (?) shirt for the first 18 holes of the weekend and teed off shortly after 8:00 a.m. ET.Sweat was already visible by the time that Woods stepped up to the 10th tee to begin his round on the back nine.
Now, to be fair, he wore a sweater vest while on the range that definitely didn’t help him stay cool.
However, it was a glorious 74-degree day with very little humidity in Derby City. Woods’ competitors were not nearly as wet as he. Most of them were completely dry and managed to stay that way throughout the day.
For example, here is how Rory McIroy looked on 16:
The same cannot be said for Woods, who only got sweatier as he continued to march around the Jack Nicklaus-designed course. Here is how he looked on 12:
It was even worse by the time he finished up his first nine holes on 18.
This is not unusual for Tiger Woods. There is simply no climate too cool for his sweat to overcome!
As a result of the optics from Thursday’s round, Sun Day Red caught a lot of heat. (Pun intended.)
Golf fans were quick to point and laugh at the shirt’s inability to stay dry. They laughed at its poor ability to handle moisture.
However, to Sun Day Red’s credit — the shirt was actually doing what it is supposed to do!
Moisture-wicking clothing is designed to pull moisture away from the body onto the shirt. That way, the moisture can evaporate. For Woods to be as soaked as he was means that his Sun Day Red shirt was doing its best to keep sweat off of his body and keep him from overheating. It just couldn’t keep up to dry fast enough.
Obviously, it doesn’t look great. But no shirt is able to handle the amount of sweat that pours from Woods’ pores. They can only try!
