In recent years, plenty of brands have attempted to establish an online presence by injecting more personality than you’d expect into the social media accounts they run. However, it appears someone at Adidas went a bit too far while responding to Kevin Durant.
On Friday, Adidas officially announced the release of the signature basketball shoes it whipped up in conjunction with Anthony Edwards (dubbed the “AE 1”).
The rollout for the launch included a campaign that featured a clip of Edwards discussing whether or not Kevin Durant would ever rock the sneakers in question, which seemed like a fairly odd decision when you consider KD has had a deal with Nike since he was drafted in 2007 and signed a lifetime contract with the brand earlier this year.
If you’re familiar with Durant, you likely know he’s never shy about speaking his mind online, and he wasted no time letting Edwards and Adidas know he definitely doesn’t have any plans to even “put a big toe” into the shoe in question.

Well, it didn’t take long for someone with access to the Adidas Twitter (I’m not calling it X) account to respond to Durant with a message that read “u dusty bouta retire soon anyway.” While that response didn’t stay up for very long, as you likely, know, the internet never forgets.

It’s pretty easy to understand why the tweet was deleted, as Adidas has already had a pretty rough year thanks to the whole “Kanye West” thing and would probably prefer to avoid having to deal with more unnecessary headaches.
With that said, I honestly would’ve respected the company more if it had stuck to its guns instead of opting to resort to the damage control that was undoubtedly sparked by some apoplectic emails that flooded the inbox of the unfortunate soul who decided it was a good idea to hit “Send.”
With that said, credit where credit is due for
