LeBron James is apparently trying to cash out one last time before he retires.
Two weeks ago, LeBron was asked about his future plans, and he says that he hoped that he stayed with the Lakers but was unsure of what was going to happen going forward.
“I am a Laker. I’ve been happy being a Laker the last six years, and hope it stays that way,” said James when asked of what team he’ll be playing for, later adding, “I don’t have any answers on how long it is, or what uniform, but I hope it’s with the Lakers.
”“I have not mapped out how many seasons I have left. I know it’s not many… I am a Laker. I’ve been very happy being a Laker the last 6 years, and hopefully it stays that way… I don’t know how it’s going to end, but it’s coming.”

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst is now reporting that LeBron is looking for a multi-year deal that will pay him over nine figures.

“I don’t think this is LeBron’s last stand, I don’t think this is the Lakers’ last stand,” Windhorst said on First Take. “First off, I think LeBron is angling to sign a multi-year deal in the offseason with the Lakers that will be nine figures. That will be even bigger than the deal he is on now. Now, whether or not he’s able to finish that deal, whether or not the Lakers want to give him a three-year contract and pay him $60 million when he’s 42 years old, that’s a different discussion.”
LeBron currently has a $51.4 million player option for next season, which he could decline, hoping for a new contract from the Lakers and becoming a free agent.
