iPhone Users Discover Meta’s Threads App Is Nuking Their Battery Life

Facebook’s parent company Meta released their new Threads app last week and has been breaking records ever since.

It took no time at all for the Threads app to become the fastest-growing app ever released. Threads reached 100 million users in under a week.

While Threads has been a breath of fresh air for millions looking for a Twitter alternative, it didn’t take very long before those millions of users noticed what the app was doing to their iPhone batteries.

And instead of venting frustrations about Threads on Threads they flocked back to Twitter to complain.

A quick search for ‘Threads battery’ on Twitter reveals a lot of results like these:

I’ve been running the BroBible Threads account and got curious what my battery life looked like. Despite not using Threads a ton it has sapped off 25% of my battery life today.

Someone on Twitter wrote “When I have both Facebook and Instagram Threads running my phone doesn’t charge, that’s how much draw it has lol.”

that the iPhone 13 Pro Max + iOS 17 handles Threads well, in terms of battery life, but they also remarked that their battery was down to 25% so they might just be mistaken.

they hopped onto Threads to grab their profile name but the app was ‘tanking’ their battery life. And they’d return once Meta sorted all of that out.

It remains to be seen if the Threads App will assume the ‘Town Square’ throne of the Internet. That throne currently sits vacant after millions have fled Twitter and Twitter traffic has begun to plummet.

Until the Threads app has a desktop interface, sorts the battery issue, adds native GIFs, DMs, a chronological timeline, and ‘following’ feed so it’s not all random celebs, the ‘Town Square’ throne will remain vacant.

It also remains to be seen what will happen with Twitter’s threat of legal action against the Threads app.
