ECU baseball coach Cliff Godwin made waves at the NCAA Tournament following a heated exchange with an opposing staff after a critical loss. He’s now been seen defending his actions – with video evidence!

The Pirates were one of 16 national hosts during the Regional round of postseason play, welcoming in a trio of foes to Greenville, NC all with hopes of keeping their seasons alive.

Though East Carolina was the host, it was another member of the four-team field that found itself celebrating at week’s end.

The Evansville Purple Aces became just the ninth four-seed to advance to a Super Regional, and they went through ECU to do so. The Aces knocked off the Pirates in their first game of the event, then eliminated ECU in the Regional Final.

East Carolina’s season ended while Evansville players took over their home ballpark.

Coach Cliff Godwin took offense to the on-field antics, believing that the celebration went a bit too far. He let the Purple Aces’ staff know that its team had crossed the line while giving out his postgame handshakes.

Though the tense interaction didn’t escalate beyond a shouting match, it wasn’t the best look! Emotions were undoubtedly running high after that loss, but the response came off a bit salty.

Godwin commented on the situation on Tuesday.

The ECU baseball coach defended his actions!

In a post on his X timeline, Godwin wrote that he was simply sticking up for his ECU team. The

of his heated reaction didn’t tell the whole story!

A slowed down video of the moment catches a few Evansville players waving goodbye to the East Carolina bench after recording that final out. That mockery came just as coaches met behind the dish to exchange pleasantries.

Justified in his actions? That’s still up for debate, but at least we now have the entire picture.

Evansville deserved to celebrate after making history with an improbable run, but Godwin wasn’t going to just sit back and take the disrespect!
