One of Jemele Hill’s many bad takes from the past has resurfaced following the Detroit Lions’ win over the Tampa Bay Bucs in the NFC Divisional round.

Thanks to their win over the Bucs, the Lions are now headed to their first NFC Championship game since 1991 and just their second in the history of the franchise.

The Lions achieved this in their third season under head coach Dan Campbell, who has become one of the most well-liked coaches in the NFL during his time in Detroit.

Given the success that he has had in Detroit, the franchise’s decision to hire Campbell has been an undeniably shrewd one. As such, some of the old hot takes about Campbell are resurfacing, such as Jemele Hill bemoaning that he’s the type of person that “black coaches are losing opportunities to.”

Hill’s comments were attached to a video of Campbell during his introductory press conference discussing the mentality and attitude that his teams will have.

The Lions’ division title this season was also their first since 1993, back when they played in the NFC Central.

It should also be mentioned that Campbell has quite a diverse coaching staff, as his defensive coordinator, cornerbacks coach, defensive line coach, linebackers coach, and assistant head coach are all Black, in addition to a bevy of other assistants. The Lions’ general manager Brad Holmes is also Black.

Not only has Campbell brought the Lions on-the-field success, but he’s also brought them off-the-field success as well as he helped change the narrative around a franchise that was once one of the league’s primary laughing stocks.

Heading into the NFC Championship game, Campbell and his Detroit Lions are 7-point underdogs against the #1 seed San Francisco 49ers.
