WWE fans have some very mixed feelings about the manner in which Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made his grand return to the organization last week, and some of them have directed their anger at the superstar’s daughter to the point where she says she’s gotten death threats.
If you haven’t been keeping tabs on the development that’s taken the WWE by storm, here’s a quick rundown to get you up to speed.
There was a fair amount of speculation The Rock was going to make an appearance at the Royal Rumble at the end of January, but he was absent from an event where Cody Rhodes earned the right to challenge Roman Reigns to a championship match for the main event at Wrestlemania.
That showdown was slated to be a culmination of a storyline two years in the making, but things took a turn when The Rock crashed Friday Night Smackdown last week to announce he—not Rhodes—will be facing off against Reigns for the right to wear the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship belt when the organization’s premiere event is held in Philadelphia in April.
That didn’t sit well with fans who’ve been eagerly awaiting the day they can see Rhodes “finish his story,” especially when you consider a report that suggests Johnson’s somewhat unexpected return to the ring was the result of him deciding to leverage the power he wields after being named to the board of directors of the WWE’s parent company.
While most pro wrestling fans have resisted the urge to throw a hissy fit over this twist, there are unfortunately plenty of others who take the glorified soap opera a bit too seriously to the point where they’ve decided to go after Johnson’s daughter Simone, the superstar known as “Ava” who serves as the GM for NXT.
On Monday, she hopped online to ask people to leave her out of the discourse surrounding her father’s ongoing storyline while saying she’s received death threats from people who are taking the situation way too seriously.

It appears she decided to deactivate her Twitter account shortly after posting those messages, and it’s kind of hard to blame her.
