Hillary Clinton Weighs In On ‘Barbie’ Oscars Snubs, Makes People Like The Movie Even Less

The discourse surrounding Barbie‘s Academy Award nominations — or rather, the lack thereof — has made its way all the political level of culture as former Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has chimed in.

Turning a conversation that was already annoying into something far more insufferable, Clinton hopped on social media to send a message to Barbie director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie, who were not nominated in their respective categories of Best Director and Best Actress.

It should be noted that while Gerwig and Robbie were not nominated, Barbie did rack up eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera, and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling.

“Greta & Margot, While it can sting to win the box office but not take home the gold, your millions of fans love you. You’re both so much more than Kenough,” Clinton tweeted, signing off with the hashtag #HillaryBarbie.

Clinton’s comments, perhaps unsurprisingly, have seemingly had the opposite than intended effect on movie audiences, as her words have only made any disdain towards the film seemingly grow.

“Just saw that Hillary Clinton posted about the Barbie nominations thing. I’m gonna walk into the sea,” one person succinctly and hilariously

.

The Babylon Bee also had a good crack at Clinton, publishing a

titled “Hours After Hillary Condemns ‘Barbie’ Snub, Oscar Statue Found Dead In Apparent Suicide.”

Many people also pointed out how Clinton has been silent on recent political issues such as the Palestine/Israel conflict but has spoken up about a movie based on a toy not receiving any superfluous award nominations that actually don’t mean anything.

In addition to Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, Barbie also received nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and two in the Best Original Song category (“I’m Just Ken” and “What Was I Made For?”).

The 96th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 10, and will be televised on ABC.
