In the NBA’s Western Conference Play-In Tournament game on Tuesday, April 16, the Golden State Warriors lost to the Sacramento Kings by a score of 118-94 in what many people believe will be the final game played by the trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

For a decade or so, the Warriors were the gold standard of the NBA, but time catches up to us all, athletes especially. Klay Thompson’s career, in particular, looks to be running on fumes, as the 34-year-old former sharpshooter put up zero points while shooting 0/10 from the floor and 0/6 from beyond the 3-point line.

Naturally, given Klay’s performance, NBA fans on Twitter were roasting him for tossing up bricks. Twitter’s AI-trending tab, however, clearly didn’t understand the phrasing as it wrote up a summary accusing Thompson of throwing actual bricks in a “bizarre brick-vandalism spree.”

“In a bizarre turn of events, NBA star Klay Thompson has been accused of vandalizing multiple houses with bricks in Sacramento. Authorities are investigating claims after several individuals reported their houss being damaged, with windows shattered by bricks. Klay Thompson has not yet issued a statement regarding the accusations. The incidents have left the community shaken, but no injuries were reported. The motive behind the alleged vandalism remains unclear.”

This season, his 11th with the Warriors, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 2.3 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game. This upcoming offseason Thompson will be a free agent, making his future with Golden State uncertain.

Head coach Steve Kerr, however, is hopeful he’ll return to the team.

“We need Klay back,” Kerr told the media after the loss the Kings. “He’s still got good years left. And I know I speak for everybody in the organization: We want him back. … What Klay has meant to this franchise and as good as he still is, we desperately want him back.”

While Thompson’s contract expires this offseason, Curry’s contract still has another two years on it, and Green’s has another three. It’s doubtful that both of those deals are seen through to their ends, however.
