Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard made waves again on Sunday in a matchup against Purdue. Late in the action, he had to be restrained by one of his Wolverine players.
Howard bizarrely went onto the floor to voice his disdain after a foul was called against his Michigan team in an 84-76 defeat.
It capped a day of negative headlines for UM, who fell to 8-20 on the season after the loss. While the contest was played in Ann Arbor, the Crisler Center felt more like a Purdue home game as Boilermaker fans showed up in droves to show their support.
The Wolverines fought tough, falling by eight points, but they never really got within striking distance to pull the upset. Purdue took an 11-point lead into the halftime break, and Michigan would never get closer than seven in the second half.
In those final minutes of play, frustrations boiled over for Juwan Howard.
Disagreeing with a foul call, he took an opportunity during a timeout break to walk onto the court. It’s far from the first outburst seen from the head coach.

Having seen this scene play out before, guard Dug McDaniels stepped in. Hoping to prevent a larger incident, McDaniels restrained Howard and escorted him all the way back to the bench.
Things are a mess in Ann Arbor at the moment, and Howard has seemingly lost control as well as the support of the UM fanbase. It could culminate with Howard losing his job at season’s end.
