49ers OL Blames Hangover After Calling Out Teammate For Missing Key Block In Super Bowl

There was plenty of blame to go around after the 49ers fell to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, and San Francisco guard Jon Feliciano backpedaled after claiming a hangover factored into his decision to point a finger at Spencer Burford for missing a crucial block in overtime.

Kyle Shanahan got a fair amount of heat for the various coaching decisions that played a role in the Kansas City Chiefs defending their Super Bowl crown at the expense of the San Francisco 49ers, but his players also made their fair share of mistakes during the 25-22 loss in The Big Game.

That included a misstep that occurred at the end of the team’s final drive of the game. Brock Purdy was forced to throw the ball away on a crucial 3rd-and-4 in the red zone in overtime after nobody on the offensive line bothered to block Chiefs DT Chris Jones, a mistake that forced the 49ers to kick a field goal.

While some observers believed 49ers tackle Colton McKivitz missed his assignment, Spencer Burford (who’d entered the game to replace an injured Jon Feliciano at right tackle) acknowledged he’d failed to make the right move when the ball was snapped.

Feliciano

prior to that admission during an exchange where he said the guy who was supposed to be blocking Jones had failed to do his job, and while he didn’t call out Burford by name, it was very clear who he was referencing.

It’s safe to assume Feliciano was correct in his assessment. However, opting to use social media to let the world know your teammate screwed up isn’t necessarily a great look, and Burford understandably seemed to be a bit irked by that development.

With that said, he did receive an apology from his fellow offensive lineman, who apparently opted to drown his sorrows after the loss when you consider he blamed a hangover for his decision to put Burford on blast.

We’ve all been there.
