Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney posing together on the red carpet of the Madame Web premiere might wind up being the highlight of the entire ordeal as early reviews indicate that the movie is not only bad but that it’s actually worse than the infamously awful Jared Leto film Morbius.
Take this one review on Twiter, for example, which says that “Madame Web makes Morbius look like The Dark Knight,” which about says it all. Similarly, Collider compared the film to Morbius in their review. IndieWire also said that Madame Web is worse than 2003’s Daredevil.

The review from Rolling Stone, however, is probably the most damning as it compares Madame Web to that live-action Cats movie from a few years ago:
“Madame Web isn’t as bad as its somewhat botched promotional campaign might suggest. It is, in fact, way worse. A genuine Chernobyl-level disaster that seems to get exponentially more radioactive as it goes along, this detour to one of the dustier corners of Marvel’s content farm is a dead-end from start to finish. It is the Cats: The Movie of superhero movies.”
The first reviews for Madame Web started pouring in after the film had its world premiere on Monday, February 12, leading to both official published reviews and social media reactions — neither of which were positive.
In attendance at the premiere were the stars of the film, including Dakota Johson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, and Isabela Merced.
Unfortunately for Sony, the studio behind Morbius and Madame Web (and the marginally better Venom franchise, only thanks to Tom Hardy), they’ve still got another bizarre Spider-Man spinoff set to release this year as the Aaron Taylor-Johnson-starring film Kraven the Hunter will be hitting theaters in late August.
Madame Web was directed by S.J. Clarkson, who had never directed a feature film before and was previously best known for directing the scrapped Game of Thrones prequel series Bloodmoon, which famously shot its Naomi Watts-starring pilot before ultimately being canceled by HBO.
Madame Web will officially be released in movie theaters on Wednesday, February 14.
