It’s strange to think that Bill Belichick will not be coaching the New England Patriots this summer. The six-time Super Bowl champion parted ways with New England following a disastrous 4-13 season in New England.
Surprisingly, he didn’t get one of the head coaching jobs that were open this offseason, so he’s currently unemployed.
That gives him the ability to do media appearances he normally wouldn’t.Bombastic ESPN personality and former NFL punter Pat McAfee seems like an unlikely match for Bill Belichick. But, the two are teaming up to provide draft coverage when the NFL Draft gets underway next Thursday, April 18.

“I’m looking forward to it. Draft weekend’s always an exciting time for everybody, for the teams that are building their teams and for the fans and for everybody involved in it, so you know it’s a great event and, yeah, I’m looking forward to seeing it, you know, from the other side. It will be fun to be in Detroit.” Belichick told McAfee.
Bill Belichick has been criticized for some peculiar decisions in the draft the last few years, and the Patriots were unable to restock the team with talent after Tom Brady moved on following the 2019 season. But, for years, Bill Belichick, who also served as the de-facto GM, dominated the draft, especially the latter rounds, for much of his career in New England.
And, I don’t think anyone could question his incredible knowledge of the game in all facets. Plus, maybe Belichick will be a little more off-the-cuff in this situation than he has been during his coaching career. I think people would love to see that side of Bill Belichick.
If there’s anyone who could bring that out of him, it’s Pat McAfee. The host of The Pat McAfee Show isn’t loved by all, but they definitely do have fun on that show. He joined the analyst team on College GameDay to mixed reviews but did produce moments like this.

This should be an interesting mash-up of two pretty opposite personalities.
