Former Little League World Series Star ‘Big Al’ Is Still Hitting Dingers Despite A Slimmed Down Look

“My name’s Alfred Delia. At home they call me Big Al, and I hit dingers.”

That sentence, uttered during the qualifying rounds for the 2018 Little League World Series, turned Alfred Delia into an overnight superstar.

Six years later, Big Al is not so big anymore. But he’s still hitting dingers as a star for Red Bank Catholic High School in New Jersey.

Delia hit an opening day home run and added another hit in Red Bank Catholic’s 7-2 victory over Rumson-Fair Haven on Monday.

Afterward, he gave an interview updating his life since the viral video and talking about the home run.

“They don’t even call me that anymore. I’m not that big,” a Delia said laughing during a post-game interview with Jersey Sports Zone.

He first rose to stardom as part of the Middletown Little League the team won the New Jersey state championshp and only just missed qualifying for the Little League World Series.

Surprisingly, the home run on Monday was the first of his varsity career. Though his baseball days are over, as Delia reportedly plans to play in college at Felician University in Rutherford.

Delia’s Perfect Game profile lists him as a second baseman, third baseman and outfielder. Perhaps more surprisingly, it lists him at 5-foot-8 and just 155 pounds, seemingly a far cry from the kid that was went by the moniker “Big Al.”
