Toronto Raptors power forward Jontay Porter finds himself enthralled in a sports betting scandal that’s sent shockwaves throughout the NBA. A decision on Porter’s professional future has already been made, but the case continues to be investigated.
The 24-year-old big man has been banned from the league due to his involvement in the scandal. It’s been determined that he purposely fixed games in which he was playing in order to pay off a large gambling debt.
While it was found that he bet on the outcomes of Toronto Raptors games, the scheme reached much further.
Porter manipulated the results of his personal props for certain contests. Investigators circled a pair of NBA matchups in which the forward made a start, only to see an early exit due to either illness or injury.
A new report shows how much money was (nearly) made by a co-conspirator wagering on one of those instances.
Two new defendants have been named in a criminal complaint centered on the Jontay Porter betting scandal: Timothy McCormack and Mahmud Mollah.

Mahmud Mollah is accused of placing an $80K parlay on the unders in Porter’s points, assists, threes, steals, rebounds, and blocks. A completely normal bet, and not alarming at all!
After Jontay Porter made the start then removed himself from the game, the parlay hit for a profit of $1.04M.
Social media was quick to respond to the eyebrow-raising wager.
“80K bet on a player prop parlay? Can’t believe these guys got caught.”
“How did they not think placing a bet like this would raise enormous red flags?”
“Almost as sharp as the move from the Alabama baseball coach.”
“Not thinking $80k on Jontay Porter is suspicious behavior is a level of stupid I cannot comprehend.”
Mollah isn’t the only co-conspirator involved in the scheme. Porter’s “partner-in-crime” was recently busted trying to leave the country like a super villain in hopes of evading consequence.
As for Jontay Porter, he’s now out of the NBA – and potentially looking at jail time.
