Poorly-Lit Gym Created Frustrating Viewing Experience For Cameron Brink’s Strong WNBA Debut

Cameron Brink Los Angeles Sparks

Angel Reese and Cailtin Clark are the main headline-grabbers in this year’s WNBA rookie class, but the Los Angeles Sparks hope that Cameron Brink can lead the organization back to the playoffs for the first time since Candace Parker’s final season in 2020. She looked every bit the part in her regular season debut!

The No. 2 pick played well despite a struggle with foul trouble.

Brink chose to forgo a final year of eligibility at Stanford and turned pro. She knows that there is work to do, especially on offense. There is going to be a learning curve on the next level and Kelsey Plum is helping her get prepared while Diana Taurasi stays cold.

That was evident on Wednesday night!

Cameron Brink played well despite foul trouble.

Brink is 6-foot-4 and would sometimes struggle to stay on the court while in college. Those foul issues carried into her first game in the W. She had five fouls in about 20 total minutes on the floor, including two in the first quarter.

However, despite the 92-81 loss to the Atlanta Dream, the Sparks outscored their opponent by eight when Brink was on the court. The second overall pick finished with 11 points, two rebounds, four assists and two blocks with just one turnover. It was a really solid performance!

Brink’s 11 points came on just seven attempts in high-value zones. She made the most of her opportunities and was extremely active as a scorer, a screener, and a passer. That doesn’t even include her defensive prowess, which was and is her calling card.

The best play of Brink’s highly-anticipated debut came in the second quarter when she closely resembled Nikola Jokić while driving to the rim and dishing the ball off for an assist. Unfortunately, hovering shadows in the arena created a frustrating viewing experience for fans watching on T.V. at home. As a result, highlights from the game are pretty dark.

Los Angeles played at Long Beach State’s Walter Pyramid while Crypto.com Arena undergoes some construction. College basketball fans are familiar with the unusual building, but WNBA fans were irritated by the poorly-lit viewing experience for Cameron Brink’s debut. The Sparks will play their next home game in Long Beach before returning to their home arena for their game against Clark on May 24.
