The “Willy Wonka Experience” that unfolded in Glasgow, Scotland has taken the internet by storm given the sheer absurdity of it all.
Not only did the organizers use AI art to advertise the event, but the event itself was hosted in a dingy warehouse and featured nothing but “plastic props, a small bouncy castle, and some backdrops pinned against the walls.
”At the end of the event, instead of chocolate, which Wonka is known for, the children in attendance — some of whom reportedly left in tears — received a single jelly bean and a cup of lemonade.
The photos from the event, which you can find all over social media, have gone massively viral due to their combination of hilarity and grimness, as evidenced by one popular tweet declaring it the “photo of the year.”

“The Oompa Loompa from the knock off Wonkaland experience looks like she’s running a literal meth lab and is seriously questioning the life choices up until this point. If you scripted this, I would say it was too on the nose,” read another
Now that the story has gone global, further insane details from the “experience” are being revealed, such as the invention of a terrifying villain named “The Unknown” who is an “evil chocolate maker that lives in the walls.”
Those who were involved with the event have also begun to speak out, such as the actor who cast hired to play Willy Wonka (videos below).

In addition to the actor who played Wonka, Kirsty Patterson, the woman seen in the viral Oompa Loompa Meth Lab picture also spoke out, as she gave an interview to the Daily Mail.
“I was angry at the time because I felt like this is embarrassing for me, and I felt bad for the people coming in as well. I actually ended up shouting at the guy. I just said to him he’s a joke and this is like embarrassing, and how can we basically live with himself, doing this to people. This is really embarrassing for me. My job is teaching kids yoga and I go into schools and stuff and I do kids’ entertainment,” Paterson said.
“This is none of our faults at all. We got the job and then we got given the script. By that point I’d signed a contract and they said they were going to put us £500 for the two days which is a lot of money to say no to. I got stuck to the jelly bean bit and by that point I felt awful. There was a part where they were saying it was like a science lab, and you were supposed to hand out jelly beans, and by that point they had run out of jelly beans, so I was just trying to make slightly exciting for the kids. Then I walked off scene because I was so embarrassed.”
The organizers of the event, House of Illuminati, said that it was a “very stressful and frustrating day” and that they would be providing refunds to customers.
