After Eminem injected pure, uncut nostalgia into the veins of millennials with his new song “Houdini,” the indie video game Hypercharge is doing the same thing for gamers of the same age (and likely both older and younger), as it sold over 40,000 copies in its first four days on the Xbox store.
The multiplayer shooter is essentially the millennial ideal of video gaming, as Hypercharge turns the concept of alive toys in films such as Toy Story and Small Soldier into a playable experience.

Hypercharge, according to its official website, “revives the classic era of action shooters – pure, simple, and without any in-game microtransactions or complex mechanics.”
“Inside the Hypercore are the beloved memories of our favorite toys. If Major Evil destroys it, these memories will disappear forever. Defend it with everything you’ve got, or see our cherished toys turn into lost treasures of the past!” Hypercharge‘s website says of the game’s story.
Video clips of the game originally went viral back in 2022 and now, two years later, is available for purchase on the Xbox Store and Steam.
In a statement on social media, the creator of the game shared an emotional statement that detailed his journey to this point.
“I left school at 15. No grades or confidence, devoting 14 years to our family’s painting & decorating business. In 2020, I switched to designing and marketing games. Now, in 2024, our action figure game has launched on Xbox and is going viral,” he said
“Anything is possible if you believe and work hard enough! It took me and our team of six a long time to get where we are! If you’re struggling, please know that you are good enough and you can achieve great things! Success is subjective – find what makes you happy!”
Hypercharge is now available on the Xbox store for $29.99. You can check out the official trailer for the game below.
