Kadarius Toney’s Costly Offsides Penalty Comes Back To Bite Chiefs A 2nd Time In Playoffs

The Kansas City Chiefs are prepping for a playoff matchup with the Bills as they get set to travel to Buffalo. The roles could’ve easily been reversed, however.

Buffalo took down the Chiefs 20-17 in their only head-to-head matchup this regular season in a game that ended in controversy.

Kadarius Toney was called for an offsides penalty on what would’ve been an incredible go-ahead score late in the fourth quarter.

With laundry on the field, six points would be taken off the scoreboard in the eventual KC defeat, though not everyone agreed the flag should’ve been thrown.

After the game, social media erupted.

Was Toney actually offsides? Did he check in with officials prior to lining up, and if so, did they give him the OK?

The NFL world was completely split.

Toney did appear over the line of scrimmage, though that final play wasn’t the only time he’d lined up in that position in the game. In every other case, no penalty was called.

A number of reporters believed Toney had correctly checked in with officials before the play, who approved his position on the line of scrimmage. Some of those media members later deleted their tweets criticizing the NFL.

Toney, himself, ripped the refs for swiping the Chiefs’ win over the Bills and robbing Travis Kelce of a great play.

As if that loss wasn’t painful enough, it’s now come back to bite Kansas City a second time.

Chiefs lose homefield advantage to Bills

Both teams finished with identical 11-6 records, and that head-to-head outcome gave Buffalo the nod in playoff seeding. With the two teams matched up in the Divisional Round, that means the Bills will host.

Both squads rolled in the postseason’s opening round despite playing in freezing conditions.

The Chiefs took down the Dolphins 26-7, “riding the D” to a dominant win. Buffalo took down Pittsburgh 31-17 after waiting out a snowstorm.

Can Kansas City get revenge for their previous loss to the Bills or will Buffalo prevail once again?
