Chicago Sky Players Harassed At Team Hotel On First Road Trip Since Caitlin Clark Incident

Ever since Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter hit Indiana Fever guard and fan-favorite Caitlin Clark, the discourse around the WNBA has turned pretty ugly on the internet.

Sadly, it doesn’t seem like things are de-escalating. Instead, players from the Chicago Sky are reporting that they were harassed at their team hotel in the Washington D.

C. area prior to tomorrow’s game against the Washington Mystics.

That surely had to be a scary scene for all of the players for the Chicago Sky. Regardless of what people think about the cheap shot that guard Chennedy Carter put on Clark last Saturday, this is simply unacceptable.

It doesn’t help that the issue has turned political, with race at the center. On Wednesday, Congressman Jim Banks (R-IN) sent a letter to the commissioner of the WNBA, Cathy Engelbert, demanding she do something about the “targeting” of Caitlin Clark.

This is quite clearly all getting way out of hand. Everyone needs to take a deep breath and let these women play basketball again. Simply put, we would not be turning a hard foul in the men’s game into a national conversation like this. And, while the foul was definitely out-of-line and reprehensible, Caitlin Clark is not the first rookie in sports to be targeted for physical play, to say the least.

But, with Angel Reese, Clark’s college rival when Reese was at LSU and Clark at Iowa,  seen cheering for the hit when it happened, it’s going to be hard for this to die down for the Sky. Ultimately, Reese and Clark are the two lightning rods for the unfortunate discourse that’s taking place right now.

Hopefully all of the league’s players can stay safe and those that feel the need to cause issues for players at team hotels decide that’s not the best use of their time.
