Baker Mayfield is about to get paid big money next season.
After a stellar comeback season in which he got paid only $4 million, Mayfield is now negotiating a new contract with the Bucs and intends to stay with the team.
“I love this group,” Mayfield told the media. “Obviously, who knows how it’s going to play out, but I can’t say enough about this organization and the opportunity they gave me this year.
Just thankful, and I hope it works out.”NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that Mayfield would like to stay with the Bucs but wants a “big-time quarterback” deal.
“My understanding is, the Bucs want Baker Mayfield back next year,” “He wants to be back as well, potentially cash in on a real, big-time quarterback deal.”

According to NFL insider Tony Pauline, many around the league believe Mayfield will command $40 million/year in his next contract, which is definitely big-time quarterback money.

Last month, eyebrows were raised when I mentioned that Baker Mayfield, a candidate for the league’s Comeback Player of the Year Award, was on pace for a contract that would pay him at least $40 million annually. And while many disagreed, the general consensus at the Senior Bowl was that Mayfield is going to get paid a lot more than most expect. Several factors play into this belief, but two stand out after I spoke to several people.
