John Daly Catching Heat For Promoting Vodka As A Cure For COVID-19 In Video For Trump Organization

Listen, I love John Daly as much as the next guy, but bro has had issues for decades now.

Dude was the 1991 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, won two Majors – the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 British Open – and was named PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year in 2004, but he has also the only player to have won two Majors to have never been selected for the Ryder Cup since the inception of the event in 1927.

The reason for that is well-documented, so I won’t get into that here, but Daly, with his checkered history of alcohol abuse, is once again in critics’ crosshairs for doing something completely irresponsible.

For some reason, Daly recently created a video which was posted on The Trump Organization’s social media channels in which the 53-year-old advocated drinking vodka as a cure for the coronavirus.

“I’ve kind of got a cure for this. I think you just take… I only drink one drink a day, it just happens to be a bottle of good old Belvedere,” Daly said while holding up a bottle of vodka. “Just drink one of these a day. You know, sippy, sippy on a McDonald’s diet Coke, you know, wash it down pretty good. Never have a hangover. And that’s the way you kill this coronavirus I believe. But ya’ll be safe, take care and hopefully we’ll be getting back to the things we do best pretty soon.”

First of all, if there is anyone out there taking health advice from John Daly, especially in the middle of a pandemic, let me just say that those folks’ life expectancy is already pretty low, so there’s really no need to worry about them.

Second of all, according to people who actually study this sort of thing, the World Health Organization (WHO), alcohol does not protect against COVID-19 and, in fact, drinking alcohol may actually heighten one’s risk of being infected with the coronavirus.

So, with those two things in mind, reactions to Daly’s video for The Trump Organization were not great.

@Trump @PGA_JohnDaly @TrumpGolf Just as useful as listening to medical advice from a man who stares into the sun.
