The pro wrestling world lost a legend when “Rowdy” Roddy Piper passed away in 2015, and Hulk Hogan has turned some heads after implying he received a voice message from the spirit of his former friend a couple of days after his death.

Roddy Piper (whose real name was Roderick Toombs) got his start as a professional wrestler on tiny circuits in his native Canada in the early 1970s before eventually attracting the attention of an NWA promoter who invited him to hone his talents in Los Angeles while developing the kilt-wearing character that would be him famous.

Piper eventually caught the attention of what is now known as the WWE before signing with the organization in 1984. He eventually found himself at the center of a storyline involving Hulk Hogan, who was also one of his primary foes when he made the leap to the WCW in the mid-1990s.

Piper (who also starred in the John Carpenter classic They Live and crushed it while playing a washed-up wrestler known as “Da’ Maniac” on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) was a beloved figure in the wrestling community, and that reality was affirmed by the reactions to the news of his death at the age of 61 after suffering a heart attack in his sleep on July 31, 2015.

Earlier this week, Hogan sat down for an interview with The 700 Club that attracted a fair amount of attention thanks to what he had to say about what unfolded in the wake of Piper’s death, as he heavily implied he was contacted by the spirit of his friend via the voice message that was texted to him two days after he died.

If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering if Hogan had any proof to back up that claim—and he actually does. The Hulkster had previously shared the same story while discussing Piper’s legacy on an A&E documentary that aired in 2021, which

.

It does appear Hogan has shifted his stance when it comes to the origins of the message in question, as he most recently positioned it as a message Piper only would have sent from the afterlife while previously acknowledging technological issues could have been the reason he received it in the wake of his death.

Now, I’d argue one of those possibilities stands out when it comes to picking the most realistic explanation, but I’ll let you come to your own conclusions.
