Saint Mary’s College might just have the tallest pitcher in the NCAA. Standing 6-foot-9, right hander Jason Reitz provides a unique perspective for opposing hitters.
Propped up on that pitching mound, he absolutely towers over batters while having a release point that gives the impression that the ball is in the zone as soon as it leaves his fingertips.
College baseball players are already having difficulty figuring him out!Coming out of Pioneer High School in San Jose, the lanky ace was a force.

Posting a perfect 6-0 record as a junior, he was unhittable as evidenced by his 1.09 ERA.
He missed his senior season with Tommy John surgery, which limited his progress heading into his freshman season with the Gaels. In Year 1, he appeared mainly in a relief role, though he did make three starts.
Over nine innings of work, he posted a disappointing 9.00 ERA but did strike out 20 batters.
This offseason, he had a full cycle to rebuild his strength and continue progressing on the mound. It’s definitely paid off!
Reitz made his first start of the season on opening weekend, and he didn’t disappoint.
The righty was nearly flawless in his debut, striking out eight batters over five innings of work. He allowed just a single run on three hits to help his team land an 11-8 victory.

Reitz can touch the low 90s with his fastball, and the reaction time for hitters has to feel even quicker due to that before mentioned release point.
After the game, he
“So many people around here helped me get better. The trainers, the weight guys, so much help. I really appreciate all those people as they helped me complete the journey in the offseason.”
Jason Reitz is off to a great start in his sophomore season. He’ll continue to baffle hitters with that 6’9″ frame moving forward.
