Travis Kelce Completely Shuts Down The NYT Claiming He Invented The Fade After Jason Asks Him About It

Travis Kelce discusses The Fade haircut

Travis Kelce absolutely did not invent The Fade haircut. It is wild that has to even be said but the illustrious NYT Style section recently made that claim, calling it the ‘Travis Kelce Hairdo,’ and he’s had to answer for it in recent days.

Earlier this week on Super Bowl Media Day, Travis Kelce was asked about the NYT claiming he invented the fade and he had a priceless answer.

Asked for his ‘take on that’ claim from The Times, Travis Kelce said “that’s ridiculous, man. It’s absolutely ridiculous. And to do it on February 1st… To throw me to the wolves like that… That was messed up, man.”

The February 1st comment of course refers to the start of Black History Month as it’s a haircut that has been part of Black culture for decades, really since it was invented by the US military in the 1940s, according to Ebony Magazine. Now on the latest episode of the New Heights Podcast, Jason asked Travis about it… Here’s what he had to say:

Jason And Travis Kelce On ‘Inventing’ The Fade

Jason Kelce: “In more new news, Travis invented a haircut…”

Travis Kelce: “Get the f— out of here.”

Jason Kelce: “In hair-related news, it appears the New York Times has credited Travis Kelce with inventing The Fade. The headline of the article reads ‘they’ll take the Travis Kelce hairdo. Not since Jennifer Aniston has a haircut become so popular. Barbers, in America and abroad, are being inundated with requests for “the Travis Kelce.’

Travis Kelce: “Oh my gosh, what? This is what it said? Who the f— is in quote saying this???”

Jason Kelce: “This is from the NYT article which is probably a very legitimate pundit/writer. I dunno.”

Travis Kelce: “One barber. ONE barber in New Brunswick, Canada said he received at least 50 requests.”

Jason Kelce: “They’re just quoting the barber. Before that it says ‘barbers in America and abroad’ so they’re asking for the Travis Kelce overseas.”

Travis Kelce: “Well, thanks to whoever wrote this article. I had more barbers attack me for not even having anything to do with this. Like, I didn’t want anything to do with this.”

Jason Kelce: “Listen, you invented the fade, Travis.”

Travis Kelce: “No I didn’t. I did not.”

Jason Kelce: (Joking) “What better month to credit a white man with inventing The Fade than February?”

Travis Kelce: “On the 1st too. It came out on the 1st. I didn’t want anything to do with this. I saw this and I said ‘no no no no no no no no’ this can’t.. This isn’t true. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I said this yesterday on the podium, I didn’t invent the fade but I know where you can get a good one and that’s Patty Cuts, baby. Shout out to Patty Cuts, Philly native. ‘Go Birds’ tatted on him.”

“But this is pretty ridiculous (and) it happens more often than you think. I remember last year the ‘Bryce Harper Haircut’ was popular. The ‘Pat Mahomes’ has been popular in Kansas City amongst kids for years.”

End. Of. Story.

Travis Kelce did not invent the fade. He does not want credit for inventing the fade. And he wants everyone to know that.
