St. Louis Cardinals Radio Broadcast Roasts Los Angeles Dodgers Grounds Crew For Rain Delay Fail

Dodgers Grounds Crew Rain Delay

It is not often that the Los Angeles Dodgers experience a rain delay at home. Rarely is the grounds crew thrust into action during the game, so the St. Louis Cardinals had a good laugh at their expense.

The radio broadcast was ruthless!

Weather was perfect for the first pitch of Saturday’s MLB game between the two NL franchises.

Sun was shining. Skies were (mostly) blue.

That did not last long. Clouds rolled in during the first few innings. Rain started to pour during the fourth.

Conditions were ultimately deemed unplayable and the game was put on pause. It marked the Dodgers’ first home rain delay in nine years, dating back to April 7, 2015.

Needless to say, the grounds crew at Chavez Ravine had not practiced its protocols. Many, if not all of them were not there the last time this happened. They were unprepared and it showed.

Among those who took note of the hilarity was the Cardinals’ radio broadcast. Play-by-play analyst John Rooney and color commentator Rick Horton did not hold back on the ground crew.

They absolutely roasted them in hilarious fashion.

It was St. Louis who also got the last laugh. Play continued after about 35 minutes and the Cardinals went on to win 6-5 in extra innings.

All of the circumstances surrounding a rain delay in Los Angeles were unusual and the grounds crew’s struggles were absolutely hilarious. Rooney and Horton did not show any mercy to a group of folks who had very little practice and it led to one of the funniest moments of the early season.

The clock has officially reset on Dodgers rain delays. They had just two in the last 17 years so the probability of a third coming any time soon is unlikely. However, in some ways, the ground crew might welcome an opportunity to redeem themselves!
