Zach Wilson is, by all accounts, a super nice dude and went out of his way to make a kind gesture to Bo Nix during their first month together on the Denver Broncos. The former preemptively bent the knee to the latter.
Any potential jersey drama has been avoided at 5,280 feet of elevation!
Nix, who was drafted with the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, wore the jersey No.
10 throughout his entire football career— from peewee, up to Pinson Valley High school in Alabama, all the way to Auburn and Oregon. Even his father, Pat Nix, wore the No. 10 at Auburn in the mid-90s.On the flip side, Wilson never once wore the No. 10. Not as a kid, nor in high school. Not in college, nor with the Jets.
However, after being traded from New York to Denver, Wilson chose to wear No. 10!
That did not last long! He broke bread with Nix and gave it up before it ever became an issue.
According to NEWS9, Wilson reached out to the team’s equipment staff to let them know that he would be happy to relinquish the number. Of course, Nix wanted the number and accepted.
The Broncos’ new rookie signal-caller will wear No. 10 next season. Wilson switched to No. 4.
As far as we know, no money exchanged hands. He bent the knee and relinquished Nix’s number for free.
Clinton Portis famously paid $40,000 for Ifeanyi Ohalete’s jersey in Washington. Eli Manning gave Jeff Feagles a week-long, all-expenses-paid vacation for his number with the Giants. Even Deion Sanders gave Alundis Brice a new BMW for No. 21 in Atlanta.
Zach Wilson did not ask anything in return. The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft was kind enough to give Bo Nix the No. 10 for a high five and a handshake. What a nice guy!
