The Austin Peay baseball team blew out a helpless Alabama A&M squad in midweek play on Tuesday to the tune of a 35-1 rout. The shellacking was further emphasized by a record-setting homer in the Governors’ final at-bat as they continued to extend their massive lead.
It was one of a number of program marks to fall throughout the night as Austin Peay simply had its way with the Bulldogs.
The game was ugly from the get-go, with the Govs jumping out to an early 4-0 lead in their first plate appearance. That advantage was pushed to 14-0 by the end of the third frame, a score that more resembled a football game than a matchup on the diamond.
Unfortunately for A&M, things would get worse before they got better.
Austin Peay plated seven more runs across the next two innings, building a 21-1 lead as the top half of the sixth approached. Then, the final blow.
The Governors scored 14 runs(!) in the bottom of the frame to make the score almost unbelievable. 35-1!

The run rule was put into effect shortly thereafter, meaning the road team wouldn’t have to worry about recording the final nine outs in the field. The Govs might’ve hit 50 if that wasn’t the case!
When you dive into the box score, the story is even more ridiculous.
As a team, Austin Peay batted .610 on the night while holding its opponent to just two hits. Those 35 runs were scored on 25 hits with Alabama A&M walking 12 hitters and committing three errors.
Of those 25 hits, 40% went for extra bases with the lineup recording four doubles and six home runs – half of which were grand slams!
Centerfielder John Bay his two homers with the bases loaded while first baseman Harrison Brown set a program record with an 11-RBI performance.
Things ended with an absolute bang to put an exclamation point on the win.
Lyle Miller-Green set the Austin Peay single-season home run record with a 6th-inning grand slam.

Having no regard for the opposing team, “LMG” smacked a home run to push that lead to 34 runs. It was his 26th long ball of the year, breaking a school record set by Parker Phillips in 2019.
Miller-Green’s eyes likely lit up when seeing a pitch to hit as he’d been walked four times earlier in the game (also a school record). The blast was the perfect end to Austin Peay’s historic night.
