The Sopranos is widely regarded as one of the best television shows ever made, although the finale confused plenty of viewers when it aired in 2007. Now, a prop from the episode’s somewhat controversial final scene is being auctioned off on eBay, where it’s at the center of a pretty fierce bidding war.
By now, I think pretty much everyone knows how The Sopranos ends, but if you’ve somehow managed to spend more than 15 years avoiding spoilers, this is your cue to stop reading.
If you’re still with me, you’re probably aware the last scene of the finale involves Tony, Carmela, A.J., and Meadow meeting up inside the diner where the patriarch of the New Jersey mob family queued up Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” on the jukebox sitting on the table at the booth where he was waiting for them to arrive.
While most viewers expected a violent conclusion to the series, it unexpectedly cut to black before the credits rolled, leaving Tony’s ultimate fate a mystery.
The scene in question was filmed at Holsten’s, a diner and ice cream parlor in Bloomfield, New Jersey that’s taken advantage of the notoriety courtesy of fans who’ve flocked there in the hopes of sitting at the table that The Sopranos made famous.
On Wednesday, the eatery announced it was preparing for the end of an era, saying the famous booth (which was installed more than 60 years ago and has undergone multiple repairs) is being retired due to structural issues as the restaurant gears up for renovations.
Holsten’s decided to put the entire booth on eBay, and while it was initially listed for $3,000, it quickly attracted over 125 bids from dozens of potential buyers and has a top offer of $33,200 as of this writing.
The auction is slated to end at 10:02 P.M. EST on Monday, March, 4th, and you should be aware you’ll have to cover the shipping costs on top of the tens of thousands of dollars you’ll have to shell out for the booth if you’re not able to pick it up yourself.
