Two of the New York Jets young stars, Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, sound like they are exasperated with the team and the direction it’s headed.

That’s not good news considering the fact that they have played in only two NFL seasons each.

Wilson, the 10th overall pick by the New York Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft, and Gardner, the fourth overall pick in that same draft, shared their feelings this week with Zack Rosenblatt and Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

“What happened this season can’t happen again,” said Garrett Wilson. “We’ve gotta make adjustments in the game, we’ve gotta do things to counter what we’re getting and be able to put points on the board because two years I’ve been here, it’s been tough.

“Football hasn’t been this hard. When I watch it on the sideline, it don’t look that hard for the other team so we gotta figure out something to get it rolling no matter who is slinging it.”

Part of the reason football has been hard for the New Jets, and Wilson, stems from the fact that in his two seasons over 34 games he has had seven different quarterbacks throwing him the ball: Zach Wilson, Mike White, Joe Flacco, Trevor Siemian, Tim Boyle and Aaron Rodgers.

Speaking of Aaron Rodgers, Sauce Gardner pointed out to The Athletic, “Some of the stuff in the offseason with Aaron, with Hard Knocks, I feel like we lost track of some things,” Gardner said, adding, “When there’s a lot of cameras and a lot of stuff going on, you can lose track of the main thing. At the end of the day, we still got to win.”

Would things have been different if Rodgers hadn’t gotten hurt on the first series of the Jets’ season? Sure, but he will turn 41-years-old in December and is coming off an injury that has ended or significantly negatively-affected numerous NFL players’ careers.

Garrett Wilson, for one, is hoping for the best.

“Aaron will be an offense in itself because that’s what he brings to the table,” Wilson said. “He’s special. I just pray that everyone in the world gets to see that next year. But what happened this year can’t happen again.”
