The SEC is making a move from CBS to ABC in the 2024 season following a lengthy stint with the television network. That patented 3:30 PM time slot that typically featured the conference’s top matchup is no more.

Instead, ABC takes over thanks to a decade-long media rights deal with ESPN inked in 2020.

The station unveiled a new-look logo on Tuesday, but not before peeving a few of its future viewers.

Leaks of the Week 1 television schedule were dropped early Tuesday morning, and one contest in particular stood out.

Georgia-Clemson, a game that showcases a pair of national title winning programs playing in a historic, regional rivalry was dealt the short end of the stick in the eyes of many.

The Tigers and Bulldogs landed the noon slot while Florida vs. Miami was handed the coveted 3:30 PM slot. Notre Dame and Texas A&M earned the primetime spot.

The noon kickoff can be spun as starting the year with the best game on the schedule. FOX has often done this with its Big Noon Kickoff show, though to the disgust of Big Ten and PAC 12 fans.

ABC viewers are now getting that same treatment in the very first week of their new partnership!

The reaction was quite negative…

“Really, ABC?”

“ABC/ESPN forgot that no one watches noon games…”

“I’m sorry I must not be reading that right. Does that say 12pm…? ABC you good…?”

“Why is the #1 in the country playing at noon on opening weekend?”

“I already hate ESPN/ABC coverage.”

It’s giving Jefferson Pilot vibes to a number of longtime SEC fans.

The decision is certainly an interesting one given the prominence of the programs in the matchup. Georgia has won two national titles over the last three years, becoming the new standard in college football, while Clemson isn’t far removed from a pair of championships themselves.

Both will begin the year with a Top 20 ranking, with the Bulldogs likely to be sitting atop the polls come Week 1.

SEC on ABC debuted its new logo along with its Week 1 TV schedule.

The logo is maybe the last piece to the transition from CBS to ABC for the SEC, as an official music intro has already been released. The move is one that coincides with a major shift in college football media rights that’s had a monumental impact on NCAA sports.

While the Southeastern Conference moves into a new era, the Big Ten became the beneficiary of that CBS 3:30 PM time slot. Maybe the most anticipated each and every Saturday, the B1G landed the spot at 7x the value of its predecessor in part of a billion-dollar television package.

Those massive conference media rights deals not only sparked a new income for member institutions, but they caused strife amongst others around the country.

Conference realignment has run rampant as schools flip from league to league in hopes of finding greener pastures. It’s led to the ultimate demise of the PAC 12 as we know it.

ACC team members are now looking for ways out of their conference upon seeing the boatloads of cash that will soon be brought in by their SEC brethren.

The media rights arms race has completely changed the sports landscape, and the movement is likely far from through!
