Plenty of people stepped up when it counted most in the wake of the tragic shooting that unfolded at the Super Bowl parade held in Kansas City on Wednesday—a group that includes Jackson Mahomes.
The beloved Mr. Rogers once shed some timeless insight on drawing inspiration from otherwise terrible situations, saying “Look for the helpers,” a testament to the fact that many human beings will rise to the occasion when thrust into a harrowing situation.
That was certainly the case after what was supposed to be a day of celebration honoring the Kansas City Chiefs was tarnished by the shooting that broke out in the wake of the parade that made its way through the city the franchise calls home.
Bystanders wasted no time tracking down and tackling one of the suspects, while multiple members of the Chiefs went out of their way to help people who were in need; Andy Reid was credited with calming down a teenager who was understandably shaken by the ordeal, while Trey Smith handed the WWE championship belt he was sporting to a young child in a similar state.
According to The New York Post, one bystander who watched the chaos unfold said Jackson Mahomes went above and beyond in a (now-protected) tweet where they praised Patrick’s younger brother for coming to the aid of a kid who was separated from his parents, saying:
“I don’t care what anyone says but I have found a newfound respect for Jackson Mahomes.
Ana and I were stuck hiding with him at Union Station by the trains and he was taking care of a child who lost his parents and helping him calm down.”
The eyewitness added Mahomes eventually escorted the child to a police officer who was better suited for the task at hand.
Anyone who’s kept tabs on Jackson over the years is likely aware he’s caught his fair share of heat for a variety of reasons, but you obviously have to give him credit where credit is due here.
