Rumors Indicate That Christopher Nolan Will Direct ‘At Least Two’ James Bond Movies

According to recent rumors, Christopher Nolan could legitimately be the next James Bond director.

As per a report from World of Reel, Nolan is in talks to direct and write “at least two” Bond films, which would apparently be period pieces that will take place in the era in which Ian Fleming originally set them.

At this time, however, these reports should be taken as nothing more than rumors.

That said, earlier this year, Nolan addressed the possibility of directing a Bond movie and certainly didn’t shy away from the possibility, as he said it would be an “amazing privilege” to direct one.

“The influence of those movies in my filmography is embarrassingly apparent. It would be an amazing privilege to do one. At the same time, when you take on a character like that you’re working with a particular set of constraints,” Nolan said during a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

The most recent James Bond film, 2021’s No Time To Die, was directed by Cary Fukunaga and marked Daniel Craig’s final performance as the character.

Nolan is coming off one of the most successful films of his career, as Oppenheimer grossed over $900 million at the global box office — making it his highest-grossing non-Batman movie — and is expected to be a major contender at next year’s Academy Awards.

Landing Nolan would also obviously be a coup for the producers of the Bond franchise as they look to launch a new era of films for the first time since 2006, which is when Craig made his debut as 007 in Casino Royale.

Following the release of No Time To Die, reports indicated that the search for the next James Bond actor would begin in earnest in 2023, although it’s unclear how the actors’ strike might have impacted that. Back in January, however, it was reported that Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson had met with the Bond producers about the part.
